LANNER EXCEL AT TORQUAY

The 65th Annual Championships of the South West Brass Band Association were held at the Riviera International Conference Centre, Torquay on Saturday 5th November 2011 where 37 bands competed in 7 sections, with the Lanner & District Silver Band, conducted by Stuart Chappell, taking the title of SWBBA Championship Band 2011 by winning the Open Section. Following the introduction a few years ago of the Training Band Section, what a delight it was for an appreciative audience to listen to the 5 bands and the talent of so many enthusiastic and smiling youngsters (and some not too young learners). Once again Torquay proved to be a popular venue, which reflected in the high overall standard of music making and everybody enjoying the competitive but friendly atmosphere for which these Championships are noted. The Adjudicators, Peter Bassano and Brian Minear, said gthey had enjoyed an excellent day of quality music making, and performances in all sections of overall high standard, - a very well organised event at an excellent venueh. The trophies in all sections were presented by the Associationfs guest of honour, Sue Richards, assisted by the chairman Ray Kingdon.
