The 12th Exmouth Brass Band Festival, promoted by the South West Brass Band Association, was held on
Saturday 3rd September at the Exmouth Pavilion, with a capacity audience enjoying a feast of music
presented by 13 bands from Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. Adjudicating the Entertainment Contest,
Melvin White congratulated all the bands and their musical directors for the high standard of playing,
together with, in the main, well thought out programmes of music.
Considering the most inclement weather experienced in the run up to the Festival, the weather behaved
itself with a mixture of sun and cloud for the full programme of fringe Concerts to go ahead in the
Pavilion Gardens where the 13 bands played to an appreciative audience. Overall, the exemplary high quality
of playing, deportment, presentation and friendly bonding of the bands with their public is a credit to the
brass band movement.
